What Kind of Summer do YOU want?
Am I the only one who has never fully taken a summer off? I've always worked on camp; as a counselor or director. This summer is different for me and when I thought about it, other teachers like you might be facing the same struggles with how to approach their summer vacation.
All of my friends are working at camp this summer. I am the only one at home, doing my own thing. I remember when I first started teaching, it was important that I have a job in a camp. It kept me busy and it honestly stopped me from complaining I was bored all the time.
Over the last 10 years in education, I've grown a lot and changed. I left the classroom for three years truly believing I'd never come back. But three years later, I was missing it and went back. When I went back, I promised myself the summer would be a time for me to recalibrate and focus on other things.
I had NO clue what my day would look like let alone how I'd navigate relaxing, working on the summit, seeing friends, being with my sweet dog, etc. So I asked chatGPT for some help. I prompted it with some guidelines and asked for guidance. The moral of the story here is don't be afraid to ask for guidance! Don't be afraid to ask yourself the hard questions when you're looking at your summer. Take initiative and make sure your summer is EXACTLY how you want it to be so that you can go back to the classroom feeling excited, inspired, and empowered.
